This is my very first Tarot deck. I am an absolutely biginner to the Tarot world and I needed a simple yet good quality Tarot deck, in order to start my new journey. I think that I searched enough and I ended up chosing the Rider-Waite Tarot deck. Most of the reviews that I read, suggested this one.Once it arrived, I opened the package immediately and I took the cards out of their box. The drawings, the quality, made me want to learn more about this mystifying world of Tarot. As I mentioned above, the quality of the pictures is absolutely perfect. Clean pictures of the figures which makes the experience even stronger. A strong plus is the feeling of the cards’ matterial. It is hard, thick with a smooth touch as If I touch a mirror. It fills in my hands and I cannot help holding them. With this beautiful deck and a lot of study, I am ready to start scratching the surface of the Tarot universe. I think that I have not yet chosen my favourite card, but some time I will.I am surelly not the one to suggest what is best for you, if you are new in the Tarrot universe, but I would totally recommend this deck as your starter. And be sure that you will enjoy it…Pros: This package also contains a guide booklet. A map for an amature traveller like myself.Cons: I know nothing yet about this world of Tarot cards. But I will learn.

I can’t help but give the Tarot 1909 5 stars. After decades away from Tarot, my interest was recently rekindled, and after perusing numerous decks, I went back to the first deck of my youth. Sure, it’s not perfect. Some of the colors are a little odd, leaving one to wonder if the numerous reprints over the years had some effect. Same with some of the images; they can be a bit unclear at times. But for the most part, this is an strangely compelling deck. The designs are fairly simple, which I like; they are full of symbolism but not so much that there is no “room” for the reader/querant to enter into the scene, so to speak. If a card has too much symbolism, too much clutter, I find it sometimes loses its impact because all the specific details with their meanings may not fit the specific situation. This deck is archaic enough to be appealing, simple enough to be easy to memorize, and easy enough to interpret, either by studying and meditating on the cards and/or reading about it.A card included with the deck told me something I never knew: Pamela Colman Smith, the artist commissioned by A.E. Waite to illustrate this deck, and who was a member of the Golden Dawn before entering the Catholic Church, was paid only a token payment for her work on this deck, and died penniless and obscure, disappointed by her perceived failures as an artist, with no funeral procession, no memorial service, and no heirs. That bit of history casts a whole new light on this deck for me. Pamela Colman Smith: Requiescat in Pace.

I’m new to tarot just beginning my journey and see these cards as the definitive set. Hence the purchase. Having said that the image reproduction is just ok I’d had greater expectations for the price they are a fair starter set and as a novice they’ll do.

Just start with this deck. It’s the default, it’s the baseline. And, it’s good. I have a dozen decks and I keep coming back to this one.It shuffles welll, the colors are bright (OK, the line work is a little muddy sometimes, and some would call the colors garish)… but it’s just *there*. It’s just *right*.Like… look at 6 of Cups on this deck vs something like the Radiant or Universal… With this deck, there’s (possibly?) one of those duck/rabbit things going on with the girl’s face and hair? The first time I looked at the card, I thought her hair was the face, and she was looking away (and that kinda goes with her mittens… she doesn’t want to touch). And, with this deck, is he looking at her or just smelling the flower? Maybe he’s just smelling the flower while she’s looking up adoringling at him? You can get these same things from other classic RWS decks, but what I’m saying is… it has to be a classic RWS deck (like the Original or Centinial, not the Radiant or Universal)…I love the Original. I think it is objectively/subjuctively the best product, the best deck. But, I keep coming back to this one.I think this is the deck to start with. You know the thing about how your first tarot deck should be a gift, not a purchase? I don’t necessarily agree with that, but I have an Original and one of these… the yellow-deck Rider… on hand to give. If asked, I will recommend this as the first deck.

Hauntingly accurate readings, especially once you learn how the cards interact. Though I suppose that’s just as much to do with my own abilities as it is with the deck itself. Anyway, card design is great. Very clear, matter of fact, symbolic so you can discern much of their meaning on their face. None of that flowery stuff that more artistic decks do, which, while pretty, often tends to obscure the meaning. Overall I’d say this is the best deck to start with. I’ll probably stick with it as my primary for a long time.

The tarot pictures are perfect no problem at all with the illustrations not being correct. I have had Rider decks previously since I’m a mature lady. The deck I had the card stock was thicker; that’s the only problem with these cards, they are not bad but it could be thicker Which would make them more durable last longer.

Tarot 1909 card is a traditional deck that has been in use for many decades. When I was first interested in tarot, I was instructed to learn about numbers and signs first (wands, cups, pentacles and swords) and practice reading with minor arcana only. This has been fro a while. The deck is getting worn out and I no longer know where major arcana cards are. So I ordered a new deck and this time around I will use all cards because I studied the meaning of the major arcana cards as well. My collection of tarot cards is growing and I am slowly adding oracle cards to my collection as well.

I absolutely enjoy using this deck. The colors are beautiful, and the blues and yellows are not too bright like in other yellow box editions. 👏🏻The line work is clean, crisp, and clear. The quality of the card stock is smooth and sturdy and it shuffles like a dream. If there is a RWS edition you want in your Tarot collection, this is the one. 😎 I am truly pleased with the overall production and quality! ♥️💯

I have this classic deck that was gifted to me about 5 years ago and it’s the one I use daily for personal use. I purchased this new one here for a class and it’s good quality and perfect for what I need it for, and perhaps one day I’ll gift it as well. What I don’t like about it is that there’s so much red in some of the images, so much more than my personal deck. I figured there’d be some coloring differences just based on the fact that my personal deck is older. But if you look closely, it almost looks like the red is scribbled on with a marker or pen. It’s distracting for me and I find it odd. Other than that, which obviously is just my personal opinion, the deck is as it should be!

It’s all so personal, it depends what kind of deck you personally connect with… but this works well for me. The price is really good as well. And the size isn’t too big, so I’m able to shuffle them, which I like. Sometimes when decks are big, it’s harder to shuffle, but these are perfect.

Absolutely love this deck! I started using tarot as a teen and dropped it because I felt confused… I was using a novelty deck that strayed from the original system in so many ways. Doing some major soul searching and decided to give it a try again, and was internally lead to try traditional cards. These are sturdy, beautiful classic/ symbolic art work! Perfect for anyone new to tarot! I would recommend getting online learning tools or a book to go along with, but over all, I’m very pleased with this investment!

This deck is the traditional Tarot deck that has been around for over 100 years now. It was developed by Arthur Edward Waite and Pamela Colman Smith. The deck is often called the Rider-Waite-Smith deck; I’ll abbreviate that to RWS.Waite and Smith created a deck that is rich in symbolism, following teachings in Kabbalah, Egyptian mythology, Christian mysticism, and other such traditions. The reason I mention this history is because almost no other Tarot deck has all the symbols found in the RWS deck. Even the newer Universal Tarot misses some of the symbols. The cards are firm and smooth; they are slightly larger than ordinary playing cards, making shuffling a little tricky. It requires a bit of practice, but becomes easy enough. The cards have bright colors. The images are clear. Although they appear cartoonish, the symbols are intentional and meaningful. It requires effort to recognize and understand their meanings. This is not a shortcoming of the cards or the deck. It’s how Tarot works.I am quite satisfied with this deck. Would recommend, and would buy again (and probably will at some point). !0/10.

This is /the/ tarot deck. The Rider-Waite-Smith deck is a classic, great for beginners just looking to do some recreational tarot readings and also for would-be occultists looking to conduct heavier divination by reading into the cards’ hermetic symbolism and kabbalistic correspondences. This deck’s imagery is so famous that it’s easy to take at face value, but upon closer examination one will notice that Pamela Colman Smith’s heavily symbolic illustrations are laden with biblical, astrological, and Greco-Roman imagery; the Wheel of Fortune and Chariot cards are fine examples of this.As both the mystic A.E. Waite and illustrator Pamela Colman Smith were members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn before the publication of this deck, anyone who takes divinatory tarot and the Hermetic tradition seriously should look into reading the works of A.E. Waite, Florence Farr, Israel Regardie, and Dion Fortune (among other ex-Golden Dawn members) for more background than that which the booklet (which itself is just a heavily abridged version of Waite’s “The Pictorial Key to the Tarot”) included with the deck provides.I ordered my particular deck from Lindsay Family Books. My order arrived within two days and was exactly the item described by the seller. The deck’s packaging arrived with some slight wear on the corners, probably the fault of the mail service’s handling, but the contents (cards, booklet) were pristine. Aside from the minor flaws in the condition of the packaging, everything about my order went smoothly. Speedy delivery, no major complaints.

This is the classic tarot which students of Golden Dawn teachings enjoy using. This is a very popular deck with many people, although it’s not my favorite. It’s been around for over 100 years, and will stay with us, although the original tarot cards were developed much earlier and much more beautiful decks are available by so many contemporary artists these days. Although this deck is very limited for personal use, it is very reliable for doing readings for clients. The old imagery seems contrived and stilted. Apparently the artwork was highly directed and the artist felt that she had been overworked and underpaid. From this comes the drudgery felt in the images. The readings from this deck are predictable and honest, in a limited way, but very short-term and uninspired although well-intentioned. With an artist more interested in the subject matter, this deck would possibly give much better readings. As it is, the work is mostly a rudimentary graphic presentation of a more inspired author who apparently did not feel he knew how to draw. How this deck became popular probably has more to do with the scholarship and research behind it, rather than the graphic images. All in all, it’s not a bad deck. I simply believe that, as a graphic work, it’s very over-rated. With more financial compensation and inclusion in the inspiration behind the images, instead of a director-servant relationship that seems to be expressed in this deck of cards, I wonder if this tarot would not only be historic and respected, it may have also been a great deck.As it is, the deck is a respected relic. There are much more inspired tarot decks, which give much greater insight than this tired old text book of an exercise. RIP.

Love this deck. A good neutral deck. Next best is the Thoth deck except Crowley “dabbled” in the dark side and I think his deck therefore has a little taint on it. Not just for beginners. While I do love genre decks I worry that they color the outcome for the reader and the inquirer through some sort of predisposition .

I enjoy ‘this kind of stuff’, tarot cards, ouija boards, etc. I find it relaxing and it’s a lot of fun with my girlfriends and a few bottles of wine. It’s fun and opens the door to conversation, laughter, tears, mystery and connection. Do they tell the future? Probably not, but I don’t enjoy them any less. For me it is about the ritual, we all have rituals in our lives, the way we make the bed in the morning, the way we prepare our coffee. The things we do before going to work or the things we do before going to bed. I have a ritual for the way I put on my make up or the way I get ready for bed. These rituals, even though we may not call them that, are comforting to us. They are our routine and in this chaotic world they give us comfort and can be relaxing or stressful. I set up my journal, a scented candle, incense and a fountain pen before I pull out my cards. I hold them in the palm of my hand and ask them a question. The reality is we will create our own narrative and often it will fit the cards we pull. Is there magic in there? Only if you want there to be. This life is what you make it, find joy and pleasure in the small things all so round, in the routine or the ordinary. Take time for yourself and make even the little things a creaming where you celebrate just being you.Love & light.Namaste

As most people familiar with Tarot know this deck is what most other decks are modeled after. So I believe it is a must-have! However, plenty of other versions with the same exact imagery are also sold with different edges and card backs so that is worth considering. This was the first deck I used to study and I don’t regret it. It has made interpreting some modern decks much easier and it is also extremely easy to shuffle and handle like a standard deck of playing cards.

As my first deck in studying/practicing tarot I love the simplicity of the illustrations and the vibrant coloring. There is a wealth of symbolism in each card down to the smallest details so spend time looking at all the information drawn on the cards. What has also helped me in my interpretations is to be aware of the card numbers and how they relate to numerology, the various animal symbols, and the meaning behind specific colors. You never know what you will be drawn to when searching for answers to a question at hand so a thorough understanding of all of the information represented in the cards will give you more to pull from and compliment your energetic intuition. I have also just recently purchased two more variations of this same deck design although with different back plate designs as I resonated with the patterns during shuffling and spend so much energy on preparing for a reading while focusing on the question and back plate design before flipping. I also recommend purchasing the ultimate tarot guide associated with this deck. It will give you a great foundation to build from as you continue to learn from other sources.

Well, not much to add to the other reviews. This is simply the Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck. The 78-card deck is now almost certainly the most widely used in the world, and it remains as popular as ever. While the images are basic and simple (drawing is almost crude in some places), the details and backgrounds hold a wealth of symbolism (almost occult like, full of mystical meanings). I can almost agree with some people who are saying that those basic pictures and symbols make connection with one’s subconscious mind.Personally I like that – the more basic cards, the better. The colours are not very bright and lively but then again, those cards are not just about lovely colours and I would say that this deck is also a good starting point for somebody like me – almost a complete beginner (the other set I have is from “Easy Tarot” by Josephine Ellershaw – which is also quite good as a starting point). But bear in mind that all of this is very personal and not very objective – as everybody has different preferences here, and searching for a perfect tarot deck could actually take long time in some cases. And as the Josephine Ellershaw was saying in her book, “your cards should provoke an instant inner response, regardless whether you understand it”. And I think the Tarot 1909 Deck is doing exactly that (for me) – something is there in those cards, you don’t exactly know what is it and you can really verbalise it, but the “feeling” is there for sure. The cards are actually quite thick and should last a long time. In my opinion this is a good buy for anybody interested in Tarot.

This deck is such a long-loved classic and doesn’t disappoint. The colors are vibrant and the deck is a perfect shuffling size. I highly recommend this deck for it’s timelessness, consistency, and readability. The deck comes with a paper booklet explaining what’s what which is a must, especially when learning the basics as this deck is hugely without a certain theme, per se.I’m enthralled with this deck! “Cleansing” the deck before using by going over it with some sage, salt, and infused words of clarity, etc. is my personal recommendation, as we all want an energetically clean deck. I do hope you love this tarot deck as much as I do!
